A set of viewing apparatuses display transparent screens encoded subtly with information, accessible through close scrutiny or illumination from a projected light source, which casts phantom-like echoes of their content onto the wall behind them. Decontextualized cutouts from schematic illustrations form the familiar silhouette of iconic classical sculptures of the goddess Venus. This conflation, evoking a robotic infusion, position gender and power as cultural constructions. This work invites reflection about the ways that an idealized womanhood has been produced and disseminated across art historical tradition and popular media, often deployed as a tool for bodily control.
