Worlds Apart
exhibition curated by Whitney Humphreys

March 1-13, 2019, Schafer Gallery, Fort Mason, SF
Featuring work by Whitney Humphreys, David Boo, Ben Cornish, and Hayley Jensen

In the process of better understanding what we know by questioning why we know it, 4 artists “make the familiar strange” (sociologist C. W. Mills). By positioning the viewer as a visitor to alternative scopes of reality, the works provoke questions about what’s real within their own. Sparked by experiences of alienation for perspectives that reject or diverge from the norm, artists are compelled to create and manifest a reflection of what we see. With Worlds Apart, we seek to bridge divides, offer portals into other universes, and share complex viewpoints with one another. By exploring the realms of fantasy and science fiction, the certainty of time, space, and truth is rendered open for discussion.
