I Was mentioned in the SC Good Times TWICE in the last couple months!
I read the Good Times weekly. I think it's an awesome local paper with the best info on all the events and shows and whatnot, plus great articles on really interesting and relevant things to us Santa Cruzians. It was an honor to be selected by the very talented and lovely Bridget Henry to create and exhibit a piece in the inspiring Broken Halos show at the Felix Kulpa Gallery in February. It was also an honor to be interviewed and mentioned in the article "Nature Reclaimed" centered around the intentions behind the Broken Halos show featured in the Good Times! Anne-Marie Harrison wrote the article and I think did an excellent job expressing the many complicated yet interconnected themes within the installation. You can tell she really had an understanding and appreciation for what we were trying to convey. Everyone should read the article, it's really great. I, however sound flustered and stuttery in the brief blurb that Anne-Marie captured. I think it sounds convoluted but at least i have a quote in the paper!!!
"'Broken Halos' also features work by Dave Gardner and Whitney Humphreys, who build off a similar environmental theme.
Humphreys, a recent UC Santa Cruz graduate and artist, says that it’s always easiest to ignore the cautionary tales.
“A lot of things that the masters of science fiction predicted, like George Orwell and Ray Bradbury, they all predicted a lot of things that are going on right now—simple things like technology for the sake of technology, but it being detrimental to our health and our environment,” says Humphreys.
Humphreys stripped down an old newspaper stand and hand-printed some 50-something newspapers with original articles commenting on the current state of the environment in a satirical pre-apocalyptic world."
